Check the starting skills

A job title is not a reliable level assessment. Someone who uses Excel every day may still need help with tables or relative references. Another person may be comfortable with formulas but new to PivotTables. Compare the prerequisite and topics, and use the Excel skill assessment as an initial check rather than a formal placement test.

The published prerequisite for Expert Functions is Advanced Functions or equivalent experience. Expert Data Management names Advanced Data Management or equivalent experience. Those are two different paths, so a high formula skill level does not automatically establish the PivotTable foundation.

Bring a specific example to the conversation

Describe a workbook you maintain, the action you repeat and where the result goes. For example, “I combine monthly exports and then rebuild three summary reports” gives a trainer more useful information than “I want advanced Excel.” Use an anonymised description; confidential business files are not needed to ask for course-selection help.
