Microsoft Project Training

Four Microsoft Project courses, $189 each, taking a schedule from a task list to a baselined plan you can report against.

Microsoft Project punishes people who treat it as a drawing tool. Type dates into a task list and you get a Gantt chart that looks like a plan and behaves like a picture — nothing moves when reality does, so within three weeks the plan and the project have diverged and the plan gets abandoned.

The whole of this training is about the difference. Project is a scheduling engine: you give it durations, dependencies and constraints, and it calculates dates. Do it that way and when a task slips two days you change one number and the schedule tells you what that costs. That is the entire value, and it is invisible until someone shows you the sequence.

The four courses run in order and cost $189 each. They move from building a schedule that calculates, through resources and levelling, to baselines, tracking actuals, and the reports that turn a plan into something a steering group can read — including the two-week look-ahead, which is the report most people are producing by hand.

Taught by instructors who schedule real work, not just the software. Classes cap at 10, and the one-year free retake applies — useful in Project more than most, because people typically take it before their first big schedule and want the second pass once they have one.

Dates, prices and registration for MS Project are handled in our booking system, which is always current. See the schedule and register. Prefer to talk it through? Contact us and we will help you pick the right level.

MS Project courses

There are 4 courses in this stream, at $189 each. Individual course pages will appear here once the booking system's catalog is connected to this site — the live schedule lists all of them today, with dates and current pricing.

We would rather show four honest sentences than four invented course outlines. See the skill assessment if you want help picking a starting point in the meantime.

Where each course sits

The four courses run in sequence. Individual course pages will appear here as the catalog feed is wired up; the live schedule has current dates for all four.

If you are not sure which of these you are ready for, the skill assessment asks eight questions about what you already do and recommends one. It takes about five minutes and asks for nothing in return.

Who teaches this

Frank Byl — Microsoft Master Instructor

Teaches Excel, Office 365, SharePoint, Project. Read the full bio and meet the other instructors, including how the CAFE method structures a class.

What comes with the course

  • 90 days of video-library access, with the exercise files from class.
  • A free retake for one year — the same course again, at no charge.
  • No more than 10 people in a public class.
  • In person or live online, with the same hands-on format either way.

Training several people at once? Corporate training is scoped to your team's skill mix and built around your own files, which for a group is almost always the better format.

MS Project training questions

Do I need project management experience first?

No. The first course assumes you are running work and need a schedule, not that you hold a certification. If you are studying for PMP or CAPM, this is software training that complements the methodology rather than replacing it.

Will this help with a Gantt chart specifically?

Yes — building one that recalculates rather than one that is drawn. The dependencies and constraints are what make the Gantt useful, and they are covered from the first course onward.

Which version of Project do you teach?

Microsoft Project desktop, which is what most organisations schedule in. Tell us when you book if you are on Project for the web or Project Online, since the planning concepts carry over but the interface does not.

How much do the Project courses cost?

Each of the four is $189. Check the live schedule for current dates and to confirm pricing before you register, since the booking system is the authoritative source.

How big are the classes?

Public classes are capped at 10 participants. That cap is the reason the instructor can work with your file rather than only the sample file, and it is deliberate rather than a scheduling accident.

What happens if I need to take the course again?

You can retake the same course at no charge any time in the next year, on every course in the catalog. People use it when a promotion changes what they need, or when they simply want the second pass.
