Automate reporting steps that have a stable contract
Reporting automation needs agreed inputs, calculations, review and output. Training should identify which steps are mechanical and which require judgment. A repeatable process is easier to test than a macro that copies whatever happens to be on the active screen.
An illustrative practice exercise
Illustrative exercise: a fictional weekly activity report imports a known source, updates a summary and exports a dated copy. A missing source and a changed column are included as test cases.
- Map the manual process.
- select suitable formula, query or macro tools.
- define the validation and handover notes..
Check the result
Check totals, period and output location before release. Do not label a stale report as refreshed merely because an export file was created.
Confirm the right training scope
Compare Expert Data Management and Macros and Forms according to the actual task. A maintained production automation or scheduled distribution is a separate implementation scope.
