Identify the missing skill
Consider a payment that appears in a bank account. If the question is which account it belongs to, why the entry affects a report or how reconciliation works, compare the bookkeeping course. If the accounting treatment is clear but finding the right screen or recording the transaction is difficult, compare the QuickBooks course.
This is a learning example, not an instruction about how to record a particular payment. Your organisation’s accounting treatment should be confirmed through its normal process.
Compare the course scope
Bookkeeping Fundamentals is listed as eight hours and uses manual methods. It covers double-entry accounting, ledgers, trial balances, financial reporting, recording transactions and reconciliation.
QuickBooks Online Part 1 is listed as twelve hours. Its outline covers navigation, company setup, customers, vendors, transactions and reports, with additional topics including reconciliation, payroll setup and inventory. Part 2 is also twelve hours and assumes QuickBooks fundamentals before moving into more involved workflows.
Build a sensible sequence
You do not need to repeat a principles course simply because you are new to one software product. Equally, knowing where a button sits does not establish the knowledge needed to decide which transaction to enter. Describe both your accounting experience and your software experience when asking for help.
