Choosing an Excel Course for Beginners

Choose a beginner Excel course using practical criteria: starting skills, instructor support, exercises and delivery. Explore the Power Concepts introductory path.

Start with the basics you actually need

Introduction to Excel covers workbook and worksheet navigation, data entry, formulas, formatting and printing. It is a suitable course to compare if opening an unfamiliar spreadsheet, selecting cells or preparing a worksheet still takes considerable effort.

Intermediate 1 assumes the basics and uses a budget to develop tables, references, formatting and related tools. If you already enter data and write simple formulas, review that outline as well before paying to repeat work you can do comfortably.

Questions to ask before booking

  • Will I work in Excel during the class, and what software access do I need?
  • Can I ask questions as I practise?
  • Does the outline include the specific task I need for my job?
  • What is the class size and scheduled time zone?
  • What practice material and support are included?
  • What is the final fee, including the currency and any tax?

Power Concepts public classes are capped at ten participants. The included course materials and retake policy are described on the course pages. Review the session details when booking, because a course description does not establish a seat reservation.

Use a small task to choose your starting point

Try creating a short expense list, adding a total and preparing it to print. Write down the steps you could not complete confidently. Those gaps make a useful conversation with a trainer. You can also try the skill assessment, which gives an initial recommendation without replacing a discussion of your needs.

A beginner course is a starting point for practice. Completing one does not establish advanced competence, a Microsoft certification or a particular employment outcome.
