Who this course is for

  • Businesses running Sage 50, or about to
  • Bookkeepers taking over an existing Sage file
  • Anyone who set Sage up quickly and suspects the chart of accounts is wrong

What it is built around

Sage Accounting Part 1 is built around 5 areas: Company file setup, Chart of accounts, Customers and suppliers, Invoicing and expenses, Canadian sales tax.

The detailed outline lives in the booking system, not here. Duplicating a syllabus onto a marketing page is how the two drift apart, and a stale outline is worse than a link. The live listing has the current one, alongside dates and pricing.

This page describes the Canadian version. The accounting courses run separately for Canada and the US because the tax and payroll content differs — GST, HST, PST and the CRA remittance cycle here; US sales tax and payroll on the US runs. The software, the workflow and the reports are the same course. Check which run you are booking on the live schedule, or ask us if it is not obvious.

Before and after

There is no prerequisite. This is an entry point into the Accounting sequence, and it assumes no prior knowledge of the material.

Sage Accounting Part 1 questions

What do I need before taking Sage Accounting Part 1?

Nothing. This course assumes no prior knowledge of the material and starts from the beginning, so it is a valid entry point whatever your background.

How much does it cost?

$619 for the public course. Confirm current pricing on the live schedule when you register, since the booking system is the authoritative source and pricing there is always current.

Is it delivered in person or online?

Both, and it is the same course either way. For remote delivery we use software that lets the instructor see every participant’s screen, so if something goes wrong on your machine the instructor sees it rather than waiting for you to describe it.

What if I need to take it again?

You can retake this course free for one year, on every course in the catalog. You also get 90 days of access to the video library covering the material, with the exercise files used in class.

Do I get a certificate?

Yes, a certificate of completion naming the course and the date. It is a PowerConcepts certificate rather than a Microsoft certification exam — the training is good preparation for one, but the exam is booked separately.
